Creating Generation Healthy
Sheila's Family Childcare of Vergas, MN shared this photo with me of her little gardeners. I am so excited to see all of these smiling faces, knowing that they have spent their summer learning about healthy nutrition, and eating real. The have gained healthy knowledge that they can carry with them forever.

I have been the volunteer activities leader at Great Beginnings Childcare for the past 4 years. In that time we have planted gardens, both inside and outside. I started an organization called Little Sprouts Garden Gang, and Great Beginnings was my very first member. We have played Nutrition board games, card games and felt boards. We have done kids animal yoga, created obstacle courses, run relays, and even had our own Olympics including the running of the torch with handmade pretend torches. we designed ourselves. We have read countless books together, and even created some very fun YouTube exercise videos called FIt Kids Get Active With Annika. These are just some of the fun memories I share with these adorable kids on a regular basis. Thanks for often being the best part of my week kids!
I am overwhelmed at all of the positive response I have gotten this year from Little Sprouts Garden Gang. Can not think of a better way to share my love of healthy eating and nutrition with others. My two step plan to Create Generation Healthy is "ME"...M is for MOVE MORE and E stands for EAT REAL. Gardening is truly the best of both worlds, not only are you able to eat real, but gardening gets you moving and is actually a healthy work out!
Stopped by to read books with these awesome members of Little Sprouts Garden Gang. They enjoyed the vegetable coloring books and #CreatingGenerationHealthy wristbands I brought them. This is one of my favorite things about being a title holder, mentoring children.
My dad has been wanting me to ride in his old collector Ford for a parade for a while, and since Vergas is just at the far end of our lake, it was the perfect parade location to do it. I found the perfect color green floral romper to match the truck, and was so excited, until I saw the forcast for rain all day. So I did what any good titleholder would do knowing the show must go on. I added a fun light weight sweater, along with bright yellow rain boots and rain jacket. Fortunately, the rain let up just in time for the Looney Daze Parade in Vergas on Sunday. But, I had my umbrella and bright yellow rain coat close by just in case. This is Carl the camel. isn't he just too cute, he was also in the parade, and glad the rain stopped.
I enjoyed my visit to Little Jackets Nest Childcare in Perham. I read a book about gardening, and shared my green Creating Generation Healthy Bracelets with them. Each child also got their own vegetable coloring book, and MyPlate activity book. This is Little Jackets Nest second year as members of my Little Sprouts Garden Gang. Thanks for having me!
Look at these kids working hard to harvest their garden, so glad you are part of the Little Sprouts Garden Gang! A big Thank You to Kim from Woodstock, MN for sharing your photos with me on Facebook, here is what she had to say:
"First garden at our house! Special thanks to Annika Kovar (Miss Southern Minnesota's Outstanding Teen Organization) for the seeds, and for giving my daycare the opportunity to be a part of Little Sprouts Garden Gang! #CreatingGenerationHealthy" The MAOT pageant was nothing short of OUTSTANDING, thanks to all of the many volunteers that work to put this show together. Congratulations to Miss Alabama OT, Jessica Baeder, for being selected to represent us as Miss America's Outstanding Teen. Fun fact, her platform Healthy Food For All, is very similar to mine... Creating Generation Healthy :) Congratulations also to our very own Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen, Emily Schumacher for doing a great job representing us at MAOT. She was a stand out on stage among the other contestants, so I am not at all surprised that she made top 12, and was honored as America's Choice. So proud of her for giving her all. Only one girl out of 51 walked away with a new crown, the other 50 kept the state crown they already had, and along with new friendships, scholarships, memories and experience they all left with more than they came there with. Even I walked away with something, as I was fortunate enough to attend this years MAOT in Orlando, FL. What was it? Let's just say I have big goals for my last year as a Teen title holder... Dreams and Dedication are a Powerful Combination!
Welcome to Miss Minnesota's Outstanding Teen Class of 2018:
Miss Frazee OT: Sophie Nelson Miss Frazee: Hailey Jutz So proud of you both, and can't wait to see what your year holds for you! |
