BIO:
Annika Kovar is an honor student at the College of St. Scholastica, where she has participated in Vox Choir, Multicultural Leadership Organization and Student Government Association. She graduated Perham High School with honors in 2019 leaving a legacy of community service and was an honored speaker at her class commencement ceremony. During her years at PHS she served as President of Student Council, Editor of the Yearbook, Leadership Team for Competitive Speech , Class Representative to Site Council, and was a Student Representative to Perham's Community Wellness Committee. She was also active in Student Rotary, Interact, Swimming & Diving, Track, Concert Choir, Swing Choir, and St. Henry's Youth Choir.
Annika's social impact initiative is Creating Generation Healthy. She loves sharing her joy for nutrition and physical activity, by speaking from a solutions mindset to the hearts of others, including community leaders, teachers, childcare associations, parents, and children of all ages. She promotes her easy two step plan called "ME", "M" is Move More and "E" is Eat Real. Her goal is to create lifelong, healthy habits for children, by encouraging them to get 60 minutes of active play every day and to make healthy eating choices.
To encourage kids to "Move More" she has produced children's workout videos called Active with Annika, volunteered as an activities leader at Great Beginnings Child Care, spent many hours as a volunteer coach at PRYD Gymnastics, and partnered with Girl Scouts in teaching them a short fitness routine. To inspire kids to "Eat Real", she created an organization called Little Sprouts Garden Gang, which partners with childcare facilities in all 50 states and Canada providing free vegetable seeds and program information for them to plant gardens with the children. In addition, Annika has led thousands of students in the MyPlate Pledge, which helps children rethink their drink and choose water, and published her own Children's Book, "Come and Plant a Garden with Me"; sales from the book are donated to CMN and Creating Generation Healthy.
Because of her hard work ethic and compassion for others, Annika chose to become a lifelong volunteer at an early age; earning herself numerous awards and scholarships including the prestigious Presidents Volunteer Service Award, Prudential's Spirit of Community- Minnesota High School Volunteer of the Year Award, Miss Minnesota Outstanding Teen Service Award, The Duke of Edinburgh Award, and was named a National Stop Hunger Scholar. She has volunteered thousands of hours with over 38 service organizations and excited to be partnered with The Alliance for a Healthier Generation, Minnesota's State-wide Health Improvement Program (SHIP), MyPlate and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
